Where does stress come from?

Our work load, home life, relationships, time and financial pressures are stressors we often don't notice until they suddenly overwhelm us.  Then a particular event may occur, the 'one that breaks the camel's back', on top of the demands of daily life, and everything can feel unbearable and just too difficult to cope with.

What are the symptoms of stress?
  • Exhaustion

  • Anxiety

  • Difficulties with sleep - unable to fall asleep, or falling asleep then waking at an inappropriately early time

  • Lack of concentration

  • Depression and the feeling of being paralysed by the overwhelming load

  • Stomach ache

  • Appetite changes - either under or over eating

  • Digestive upsets - diahorrea

  • Difficulty in making decisions

  • Blood pressure rises

  • Feelings of unwellness

  • Unable to face going to work

  • Chest pains or shortness of breath

  • Headaches

  • Poor work performance

  • Irritable and angry

  • Not wanting to socialise
